Kazakhstan and Toyota announces a deal

FEB. 13 2013 (The Conway Bulletin) – Car manufacturer Toyota and the Kazakh government announced a deal for the Japanese company to produce 3,000 Fortuner 4x4s a year in Kazakhstan. Kazakh company, Saryarka AvtoProm, will produce the cars. The deal is important as it serves as further proof of Kazakhstan’s economic diversification.

GM Uzbekistan opens new car engine plant

NOV. 18 2011 (The Conway Bulletin) – A joint venture headed by US carmaker General Motors (GM) opened an engine assembly plant in Tashkent, local media reported. The opening comes a few weeks after US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton visited Uzbekistan. The joint venture also owns a car assembly factory in Andijan, east Uzbekistan.

GM Uzbekistan increases car production

JULY 18 2011 (The Conway Bulletin) – Bucking most foreign investors’ opinion that doing business in Uzbekistan is difficult, US carmaker GM’s joint venture with the Uzbek government has increased production. Russian news agency Interfax quoted the Uzbek State Statistics Committee saying production at GM Uzbekistan, in which GM owns 25%, rose by 4.2% in the first half of 2011 compared to 2010.
